About the brand
Centella is a brand created by ROIG laboratories. It was established in Perpignan, France in 1972 by Mr. Emile Vincent Roig. Roig came across a remarkable plant called Centella Asiatica during his travels throughout Asia, where locals told him of the plants miraculous benefits for the skin.
Apparently tigers had been rolling around in this special herb in order to heal their wounds. This sparked an idea in Roig to create a skincare brand formulated with high potencies of centella asiatica. His vision was to form an organic brand that would treat a wide range of different skin conditions.
Centella Asiatica
Centella asiatica has many healing benefits for the skin. It is a highly restorative, anti-inflammatory and hydrating plant for the skin, and is most widely recognised for its amazing ability to increase collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin. Collagen and elastin are proteins in the skin that are formed by fibroblast cells. These proteins give our skin its firmness and elasticity.
As we age, collagen and elastin naturally break down. Exposure to UV rays, certain foods, pollutants and Free Radicals can accelerate the break down of these proteins.
Centella Asiatica contains terpenoids. These molecules increase fibroblast activity, which in turn increases the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin. This has many advantageous effects on the skin, such as wound healing, scar and stretch mark minimisation, and the reduction of fine lines and slackened skin.
