It’s the first week of September, and with that brings a lot of change. For many people it means the ending of summer holidays and getting back into a steady routine. Kids are going back to school, people are returning to work, and everyone is generally getting ready for the changing of the seasons.
Personally, I love September. It marks the beginning of my favourite time of the year. When there is still warmth in the sun, yet the air gets a little crisp in the evenings, and the leaves slowly transform into beautiful shades of golds, ambers and reds. There is a certain comfort about Autumn, like a loving hug at summer’s departure. And although the long, hazy days of summer are beginning to fade, there is the promise of renewal and change on the horizon.
Refocus
When we think of September, we think of the beginning of Autumn. A season where nature is gradually beginning to slow down and prepare for it’s long, wintery sleep. Paradoxically whilst nature is slowing down, for many people life speeds up again.
September is the busiest month of the year, and this busyness requires a lot of refocusing and renewing. The thought of getting back into a busy daily routine might seem a little bit trepidatious at first, and we may be left with a lingering nostalgia for warm summer days.
However, if we shift our focus to renewing ourselves and our lives, we can fully embrace all the goodness that the changing seasons bring.
Self-renewal
Just like spring is a time for renewal following winter, so too is Autumn a time for renewal following summer. It gives us a chance to start afresh. Many people take on new and exciting opportunities. Children are starting school, students are taking that next exciting step into college life, many people are starting new courses, jobs and other new adventures.
It is important that we embrace this period of self-renewal and really look after ourselves. For many people summer is a time of giving ourselves to others. We focus on meeting up with our friends and family, spending time with our children and planning holidays, trips, weddings and parties. Although summer can be a busy time in this way, there often is lack of routine and focus, especially towards oneself, and after a while this can start to feel a little unsustainable.
So shift your focus back to yourself. Do what’s good for you this September. Look after your body and your health. Start some good habits to bring happiness to you. By doing this you will open up opportunities to not only allow happiness to enter your life, but also to give happiness to everyone and everything around you.
