Let’s spread the cheer with Vclaire!
In this blog we will be discussing the feel good factor of gift giving. Why gift-giving gives us that warm, fuzzy feeling, and how it can bring us closer together.
At V Claire we can make gift-giving a stress-free occasion with our easy to use vouchers!
Kindness is the Gift that Keeps on Giving
We hear it time and time again that ‘Christmas is the one time of year’ that we can put aside our worries, stresses and discontentment, and adopt a more selfless, kind and generous approach to life and towards others.
This of course is something we all should strive for everyday, but in reality it’s not always that simple.
It’s been a tough couple of years. Christmas and all the joy that’s come with it has been put on hold since the Grinch that is Covid reared it’s ugly green head almost 3 years ago. This has no doubt led to stress, anxiety and grief in a lot of people around the world.
People have been told for so long to keep their distance. Isolate. Disconnect.
Now more than ever we are in a time where people need to reconnect. To be kinder to one another and to ourselves. This Christmas can be just the time to do that.
Reach Out and Reconnect
A great way to reconnect with others such as our loved ones, neighbours and colleagues is to share the spirit of christmas. To do something inherently kind, with no other intention but to bring happiness to others. Whether that be gift-giving, a kind word, or even just reaching out to someone we’ve lost contact with over the years.
There’s a reason why we love to give to others and bring people joy. It’s not just a nice tradition that we do for certain occasions, it’s actually deeply rooted in our biology as human beings.
At the core, humans are neurobiologically hard-wired to be social beings. It’s what we live for and it’s how we survive.
Bonding is an essential part of human connection. It helps us form social networks that protect us, nurture us and bring us happiness. These networks are our friends and families.
Giving to others has an immediate effect on our brains. Feel good hormones such as endorphins and oxytocin are released making us feel more love and connection towards that person, and increases feelings of contentment and happiness within ourselves. This warm feeling has even been given its own nickname called a ‘Helper’s High’.
Gift-giving is Good for You
Gift-giving is also beneficial to our health. Studies have proven that giving to others reduces stress in the body by bringing people closer together and in turn decreasing feelings of loneliness. 75% of all diseases are caused by stress. Feeling disconnected and lonely has been proven to do more harm on the body than smoking cigarettes. In a 2006 study conducted by Rachel Piferi of Johns Hopkins University and Kathleen Lawler of the University of Tennessee, showed that people who provided social support to others had lower blood pressure than participants who didn’t. This shows that giving to others had a direct physiological effect on their health.
Ironically, however, gift-purchasing can actually be a source of stress. Trying to find the right gift can be stress-inducing. Not to mention the financial worries that can come with it. Here at VClaire we can help! Our vouchers make the perfect gift for anyone. They cover all treatments and products sold in store. There are no set prices so they can be made to however much you like, and they can be easily purchased in-store or online!
So spread the cheer with VClaire and give one of our vouchers to someone who you want to bring joy to this Christmas!
